Whimsicott sets the team's Tailwind and disrupts with Encore, using Focus Sash to guarantee the Tailwind turn even against faster leads. It runs Modest over the usual Timid because Focus Sash already secures the first move regardless of Speed, letting the extra Special Attack boost Moonblast's damage instead. Prankster gives priority to all three support moves. Sunny Day replaces Protect specifically to counter the Rain matchup and to power up Mega Chandelure's Heat Wave for cleaner knockouts. Tailwind plus Whimsicott is the team's most common opening, pairing with nearly every other slot.
