Tyranitar anchors the sandstorm both before and after it mega evolves, since Sand Stream is shared by both forms and gives this team two separate chances to set the weather that Excadrill depends on. Jolly with maxed HP and Speed leaves Attack uninvested because Dragon Dance builds it up naturally once the sweep starts. Knock Off strips the item that would otherwise save an opposing answer, and Rock Slide is reliable same-type damage with a spread flinch chance. Protect buys a scouting turn against unknown leads and lets Tyranitar pick the right moment to mega evolve.
