Tyranitar is the team's sand setter and physical backbone. Chople Berry lets it survive a Close Combat from max Attack Adamant Sneasler, the most critical defensive benchmark for a sand core. Max HP with 26 Def SP creates genuine bulk, while Adamant nature and 6 Atk SP push damage output without committing to an all-in offensive spread. Knock Off strips items to set up partners. Rock Slide threatens Charizard Y and Cinderace. Low Kick punishes Kingambit. Sand Stream is what makes the entire Excadrill package function, providing the Sand Rush trigger every turn.
