Basculegion is the only Pokemon on the team carrying Protect, giving it room to play more patiently while everything else commits to offense. Its HP and Defense investment helps it survive opposing King Gambit pressure specifically, a common benchmark this season. Adaptability still makes Wave Crash and Last Respects hit hard despite the bulkier spread, and a Rain Dance into a Basculegion Wave Crash from Ninetales-Alola can be an explosive way to pop an opposing Mega Charizard that expects to be safe.
